Surgical Management for Complications during Closure of Atrial Septal Defect with Amplatzer Device.

چکیده
BACKGROUND Transcatheter closure of secundum type atrial septal defect (ASD) has become a standard procedure in most medical centers. Although the procedure is invasive and has a shorter recovery duration and a lower complication rate compared with surgery, it is not risk-free. In this retrospective chart review case series, we report our experience of management of complications after placement of an ASD occluder. METHODS Between January 2000 and December 2010, a total of 508 patients in our hospital underwent closure of secundum type ASD using an Amplatzer septal occluder (ASO). Six of the patients (1.2%) had device embolization or migration warranting surgical retrieval and repair. RESULTS All the devices were removed and the defects were repaired successfully without any mortality. CONCLUSIONS Surgical intervention for complications of ASO placement in patients who underwent closure of secundum type ASD is safe and effective. KEY WORDS Amplatzer occluder; Atrial septal defect; Surgical management.

Urgent Surgical Intervention for Embolized Cardiac Occluder Devices: A Case Series
Introduction: In this study, we sought to illustrate our experience in urgent surgical management for embolized cardiac septal occlude devices resulting from trans-catheter closure of atrial septal defect and ventricular septal defect. Mathrials and Methods: We retrospectively reviewed four patients aged 2–10 years who underwent urgent surgery due to cardiac septal occluder embolization between...

متن کاملHuge thrombus formation 1 year after percutaneous closure of an atrial septal defect with an Amplatzer septal occluder
The Amplatzer septal occluder (ASO) has become the device of choice for interventional closure of atrial septal defects (ASDs) in many institutions during the last decades. Although excellent results have been reported for the device, concerns have arisen about the long-term complications (1). Of these complications, thrombus formation was rarely seen after 1 year in patients (2–4). This is the...
متن کاملAssessment of the geometric profile of the Amplatzer and Cardioseal septal occluders by three dimensional echocardiography.
OBJECTIVE To apply three dimensional echocardiography to describe the geometric profile of the Amplatzer and Cardioseal occluders after deployment for closure of atrial septal defect. METHODS 20 patients (mean (SD) age, 14 (5) years) were enrolled for transcatheter closure of a secundum atrial septal defect with the Amplatzer occluder (10) or with the Cardioseal occluder (10). The two populat...
